Biography
Alexandra Hoegermeyer (b. 2002) is currently a BFA candidate in painting at Northern Kentucky University. She lives in Northern Kentucky with her parents and older sister and attends Northern Kentucky University for a Fine Arts degree in Painting. She is currently developing a series of designs for a long-term project relating to Oneirataxia, a condition that she has. Oneirataxia is the inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality, and a condition that Hoegermeyer has faced since early childhood. While still troubling her daily, she has turned this condition into a weapon within her artwork and uses it to convey real-world issues with fairytale stories. Intertwining herself in all her art has become a key to her work, displaying self-portraits of herself as fairies and elves in different environments. As a college student pursuing a career in character design through painting, she is impassioned by modern fantasy illustrations. Illustrations made by John Howe, who did work for J.R.R. Tolkien, have been a key source of inspiration for her for many years. Concept art from the likes of Baldur’s Gate and Dark Alliance continue to motivate her development of fictional characters. In the end, Hoegermeyer believes that by continuously pursuing the fantastical aspects of real life, she will one day find her own place in the art world.
